A new year can often bring around new goals, new intentions and new plans!
“Out with the old and in with the new” as the saying goes.
However, as much as we are all for ‘new year, new you’ and if that helps and motivates you through these colder, darker winter days and months then go for it! But we also think there is a lot to be said for ‘cosy, comfort and continuity’. Just like the animal kingdom, hibernating, slowing down and recharging your batteries is vital for our mental and physical wellbeing – so with that said, we are keeping things simple here this January by sharing all our usual winter walks for that much needed fresh air, as well as cosy cafes and restaurants for drinks, cakes, bakes and comfort eats this winter.
CASTLE GROUNDS AND PLAYPARK
We NEVER miss this one off the list, and fresh air and a light stroll is imperative to keeping those winter bugs at bay.
If you have little companions, then the play area is always a good idea. It is FREE. As long as you wrap up warm then this is a great cheap time out for all the family.
Within the Castle Grounds there are also lovely path walks, ideal for pushchairs and wheelchairs alike. You can spot lots of nature around, and take in the pretty winter sunrises, sunsets and frosty scenes.
Don’t miss the Planet Walk – a fun and educational addition in the Castle Grounds, FREE of charge to enjoy.

PARK RUN
If fitness is your new year, new aim, then don’t miss the lovely scenic Tamworth Castle Park run each Saturday morning in the Castle Grounds. Race begins at 9am. A 5k route with all abilities welcome. Run walk, hop or skip – it doesn’t matter. Taking part counts and it is a great community of people to enjoy some movement with for mind and body.

NEW YEAR, NEW SHOWS
Heading to the theatre in the winter is a game changer. A great way to stay warm whilst still having an excuse to get dressed up and enjoy something outside of your own four walls.
We strongly recommend taking a look at ‘What’s On’ so you can see for yourself. There really is something for everyone. Check out the website: Tamworth Assembly Rooms

TAMWORTH CASTLE
We have popped this here as a reminder that our fantastic Castle is closed during January. It provides time for a deep clean, and to reorganise and set the calendar/events plans for the year ahead.
However, the website is jam packed with interesting fun and historical facts, and there is also a gallery to enjoy images of the Castle too. Their social media channels continue to run during this month.
Don’t forget to book your visit for when they reopen in February, ready to celebrate all things Valentine’s Day, as well as sharing their schedule for February half-term, fun! Book your visit here!
WINTER COMFORTS
We know a lot of people like to cut back in January and make healthier adjustments, but that doesn’t mean that eating out is off the menu. There are plenty of healthy options in Tamworth, besides we are big advocates for winter comfort food and believe we need hearty soups, stews, pies and all the traditional winter foods to keep us warm and well this winter.
Check out the Food & Trail to look for local eateries to enjoy this festive season and get tasting their festive menus ASAP!
We have produced a map which can be downloaded here. It is also available as a printed pocket-sized map which you can collect from the Tamworth Information Centre, (inside Tamworth Assembly Rooms) Tamworth Castle and at some of the trail locations. There's also a FREE smartphone app version too. Just download the 'Tamworth AR Trails' app from your app store.
Search for 'Tamworth AR Trails' in the Google Play or Apple app store (whichever you use). Or click on one of the following links if you are currently on your device: direct link to app on Google Play store, direct link to app on Apple app store. Then install the app onto your device (make sure to do this over a secure Wifi connection for a fast download)
EMBRACE THE COLD AND BEFRIEND NATURE
You can’t really go wrong when you head out in nature. Just be prepared. As the saying goes, 'It's not bad weather, it's bad clothing'. With that said, be sure to wrap up warm and keep dry whilst you explore the great autumnal outdoors.
We are a tad spoilt in Tamworth for some seriously pretty nature spot – we just want to keep them that way. So we kindly ask you take all litter home with you to keep these precious spaces safe for our plants, wildlife and animals, but also pleasant for other visitors too.
With 14 nature spots to choose from, there is plenty of options for a breath of fresh air to fill the last few weeks of summer.
