Enjoy more special events at Tamworth Castle
Use your investigation skills to solve a murder, step back in time and learn about the Victorians and Saxons, listen to magical storytelling or decode secret war messages; Tamworth Castle has a variety of fun-packed family activities coming up this summer season.
You can now book directly online through the website: www.tamworthcastle.gov.uk .
Summer holiday fun begins on July 23 with Castle Storytelling, when children are invited to help find the lost magical stories at the award-winning Tamworth monument. Listen to the storyteller’s mythical tales and why not come along dressed as your favorite story themed character?
Learn about life during the war with a special event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the D Day Landings. WW2 in the Castle takes place from July 30 to August 1, where you can try your hand at firefighting, meet the billeting officer and have a go at trying to decode secret messages.
The Saxons are coming from August 6 to August 8 and August 13 to August 15 to give visitors a taste of Anglo-Saxon life. Saxons at the Castle will also invite visitors to solve runic puzzles, learn about the warrior princess Aethlflaed and her battle tactics, and have a go at archaeology
If you are a fan of murder mysteries and are good at investigating and cracking clues, then you won’t want to miss the Murder at the Castle event from August 20 to August 22. Can you find the culprit and receive a reward from the sheriff? Children of all ages will enjoy becoming a sleuth for the day and help the castle staff solve the case.
Summer would not be complete this year without celebrating Tamworth’s Victorian heritage at the castle. Step back in time on September 14 and 15 and join the governess, housekeeper and servants, as they go about their daily duties. Visitors to Castle Victorian Living History will experience the tasks of a Victorian household, including lessons, cleaning chores and observe a traditional afternoon tea. (All visitors are also welcome to purchase light refreshments, including tea and cake, at the castle shop).
All of the events take place daily between 10.30am and 3pm, (building closes at 3.45pm) during the summer months. Normal admission prices apply for all the events.
Entry is priced at £7.50 for adults, £6.50 concessions, £5 for children over five and £3 for children aged between two and four. Under-twos get in free of charge. Family tickets are also available for £23, based on two adults and two children.

Cllr John Chesworth, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Culture and Operational Services, said: “Tamworth Castle has so much to offer when it comes to family and child-friendly activities to keep the boredom at bay during the school holidays.
“These events offer the ideal opportunity to explore our amazing castle and unveil the rich history and also enjoy some mythical fun. Why not bring a picnic to enjoy in the Castle Grounds after your visit, where kids can also enjoy the grounds play area.”
