Exciting new season of events coming to Tamworth soon!
March 31st 2021
Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts and Events team are delighted to announce they have been working hard to create a new and varied line up of shows and events for Tamworth families and visitors to enjoy over the coming months.
After a year of limited outdoor events and the closure of all theatre venues across the UK, a great line-up of events and acts is being planned for Tamworth, ready for the anticipated easing of restrictions.
This includes the welcome return of live musical shows, theatre performances, an online St George’s Day extravaganza, drive-in outdoor cinema and We Love Tamworth.
Assuming all goes to plan with the Government’s reopening roadmap, what better way to enjoy the easing of the pandemic restrictions than looking forward to a fun-packed programme of events in Tamworth.
The new season will begin with a virtual event on Saturday, April 24. St George’s Day will return online with a host of activities and videos for families to enjoy.
Audiences are invited to prepare for the exciting launch of the outdoor Arts and Events calendar of live events in the Castle Grounds, kicking off with an outdoor stage performance of David Walliams story ‘Mr Stink’ on May 30.
Subject to roadmap restrictions easing from May 17, Tamworth Assembly Rooms theatre shows will begin with children’s entertainment the Twirlywoos in late May, then the Sarah and Duck Show in June, along with the talented D-Day Darlings performance on June 27.
Other planned Assembly Rooms performances include Francis Rossi, from Status Quo, a Take That Tribute and the Barricade Boys - direct from the West End, in July.
Outdoor events would fully come to life from July as the new ‘Under the Stars’ programme starts with a theatre evening production of ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’. This will take to the outdoor stage, followed closely by the launch of the Bandstand Music Outside programme of live weekend music during July and August.
Additional ‘Under the Stars’ performances will take place in late July when live music, food and drink will be hosted for the first time at the new Tamworth Assembly Rooms public outdoor space.
All boys and girls are invited to the launch of Tamworth Library’s Summer Reading Challenge in August. This year will celebrate the theme of nature and environment with an interactive workshop and activities run in partnership with Tamworth Library, for children aged 4 –11 years old.
The programme would not be complete without the annual Outdoor Cinema taking place in August. This year the event will again be a Drive-in Cinema set against the backdrop of Tamworth Castle Grounds. The film will be screened on a large 40ft inflatable screen and audio will be transmitted via radio transmission. Get your popcorn ready, sing, dance and get ready to drive-in for a fun evening.
September concludes this summer’s events programme with events including the annual We Love Tamworth festival which will bring the Castle Grounds to life with a host of activities for children and grown-ups. This year will see the return of community stalls organised by Tamworth Lions and a dedicated Children’s Zone.
Tamworth will also welcome back the Anglo-Saxons for a weekend of battles, living history and Saxon activities, on September 18 and 19. This event has been funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and will support the launch of the castle’s Battle and Tribute Exhibition.
Adey Ramsel, Theatre, Artistic and Events Manager for Tamworth Arts and Events and Assembly Rooms, said: “We are so excited to be working on a long awaited programme of outdoor and theatre events.
“The past 12 months have been very difficult for the events and entertainment industry, and I know how much people have been looking forward to returning to hospitality venues and attending great shows.
“This is fantastic line-up of events, with some exciting new features alongside the more popular festivities which have put Tamworth on the map in previous years.
“Providing quality entertainment for our residents and welcoming visitors back to our town remains a key priority. We know this is all subject to the Government’s Roadmap out of lockdown going to plan, but if it does, then we’ll be ready to come back with a bang and give the people of Tamworth some desperately needed fun. We can’t wait to get all the dates confirmed and tickets on sale very soon!”
