Outdoor theatre is returning to the Castle Grounds as Mr Stink arrives to the stage!
Families are being invited to finally get back to the theatre with a safe and socially-distanced show taking place in Tamworth’s picturesque Castle Grounds on Sunday, May 30, at 2pm.
Join Heartbreak Productions for David Walliams’ best-seller ‘Mr Stink’ on the outdoor stage. Bring your own picnic, or grab refreshments from the onsite facilities and be ready to sit back, relax and enjoy the show! Packed with fun, humour and a heart-warming message, this touching tale provides the perfect family entertainment.
It will take place on the lower lawn of the Castle Grounds near the bandstand, with the stunning Tamworth Castle as the backdrop. This large area has plenty of space to enable families to bring picnic blankets or chairs and settle themselves in their own marked out areas, safely and socially distanced from others for the performance.
People can bring their own food, although refreshments will be available to buy on site, including hot and cold drinks and ice-cream from Tamworth’s Sticky Fingers. Audiences are asked not to bring glass or gazebos.
Mr Stink, is a character described as a filthy old tramp who is a permanent resident of a particular bench in the park.
His overwhelmingly, awful whiff doesn't stop a lonely 12 year old girl, Chloe Crumb, from making friends with him and his dog, and when it looks as though they may be run out of town she knows she has to do something fast and hides them in the garden shed.
As Chloe's family is quietly falling apart, Mr Stink unwittingly becomes the source of their redemption after a surprise TV appearance on Question Time. Chloe’s curiosity and kindness pave the way for this extraordinary and rewarding friendship.
This hilarious and surprisingly touching story about secrets, love and life, will warm the hearts of any audience.
Adey Ramsel, Theatre, Artistic and Events Manager for Tamworth Arts and Events and Assembly Rooms, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to get this show for Tamworth.
“It’s a popular children’s story that we are eager to showcase from our beautiful Castle Grounds. Similar to last summer’s outdoor production of ‘Alice in Lockdown’, we have been working hard to ensure that following the easing of restrictions on outdoor performances, we take the opportunity to secure some entertainment and culture for the people of Tamworth to enjoy.
“We’re really lucky to have our large and picturesque Castle Grounds which enables people to come and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment with their families safely.
“While times may still be very different at the moment and subject to the Government roadmap dates, we will continue to explore all opportunities for providing safe entertainment and leisure opportunities for our residents as coronavirus restrictions allow.
“Following last year’s drive-in cinema success, we are happy that this will return again in August. Look out for the film choices to be announced soon.”
