New archive exhibition in St Editha’s Church

- Exhibition hosts unseen images and albums
- Archives on display until July
- Music albums discovered will be played inside church for visitors listening pleasure
Tamworth Borough Council in partnership with Tamworth Library and St Editha’s Church, announces archive displays of images and music.
A new temporary exhibition from Tamworth Castle’s archives relating to St Editha’s Church, is now on display, and will be available for visitors to enjoy until the end of July 2025.
Tamworth Castle acquired local history archives from Tamworth Library last year. The archives reveal several previously unseen records, images and documents.
The new exhibition offers a look at just a few of the treasures relating to St Editha’s church over the centuries. ‘From the Archives’, are items recently uncovered, as well as a few that have been in the castle archive collections for many years.
Items on display include a wax impression of the Common Seal of St Editha’s Church, an original hand drawn and painted image of one of the church windows. Additionally, the exhibition is accompanied by music from two Tamworth albums.
The two albums feature the BBC ‘Songs of Praise’, recorded in St Editha’s in 1976, and the Tamworth album ’Celebration’ recorded in 1988.
Stephen Gabriel, chief executive for Tamworth Borough Council, said: “How incredible this is to find these previously unseen or unheard records and images in our local archives.
“It’s truly humbling to know that the wax impression, along with the drawing and painting of the church windows, have been preserved for many years and can now be seen on display at the church.
“The albums give us a glimpse of some of our town’s beautiful recordings of songs of celebration and praise. We are very lucky to have these on play in the church creating a real listening treat for visitors to enjoy.”
