Tamworth Castle gets VisitEngland seal of approval
July 7th 2021
Tamworth Castle is officially one of the best small visitor attractions in Staffordshire, after achieving the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Service accreditation, a quality assessment by a VisitEngland scheme.
VisitEngland offer a range of quality schemes for tourism businesses in England. Attractions including art galleries, historic houses and buildings, are independently visited by an experienced assessor and offered support and guidance to improve their visitor experience.
Tamworth Castle is proud to announce that since the new improvements to the building, the exciting launch of the Battle and Tribute Exhibition and the addition of the AR trail and online collections website, the assessor was happy to report an increase in their rating score.
The assessor commented in his report that the castle provides an ‘enjoyable and informative visitor experience, with visitors able to engage with some excellent and thought provoking historic displays and interpretation.’
A particular strength of the assessment visit was the quality of welcome and interpretation provided by the staff. The much improved website, commitment to engagement with social media, high level of customer service and the interpretation throughout the site, was noted as ‘very impressive’. High scores were also achieved in the cleanliness and toilets sections.
Tamworth Castle has now been nominated for a VisitEngland Best Told Story accolade for its exceptional facilities and will find out if they have been successful later this year.
Cllr Robert Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “Tamworth Castle is an absolute gem, and this high accreditation from VisitEngland, is a well-deserved recognition of its value and importance.
“I am delighted that Tamworth Castle has increased its overall scores thanks to the huge amount of hard work and dedication which the whole team puts into making the castle so special.
