Calling all fun runners, serious runners, walkers, plodders, children and anyone who likes a challenge in the great outdoors, to join in a special fun run to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort in Tamworth Castle Grounds.
Two fun runs are taking place as part of a fun packed weekend of events organised by Tamworth Borough Council to celebrate the Coronation.
The event takes place on Saturday 6 May kicking off with a 2km run at 10am, where younger people are encouraged to walk or jog around a flat circular route of the beautiful Castle Grounds. Fancy dress is optional but there will be prizes for the best outfits.
The second run is a 5km challenge at 11am aimed at people over the age of 12. Runners will be taken on a flat, three-lap route around the beautiful Castle Grounds at the foot of the ancient Tamworth Castle, taking in the historic Castle Bandstand and award-winning raised flower beds.
Meeting points for both runs will be at the Castle Grounds Activity Centre (opposite the tennis courts) and participants should arrive 30 minutes before the start time.
While entry is free, anyone wishing to take part in either fun run needs to register online before 4 May via: King's Coronation Fun Run 2km on 06/05/2023 (regevent.co.uk) or King's Coronation Fun Run 5km on 06/05/2023 (regevent.co.uk).
Anyone over the age of four can take part in either runs, but all under 11s need to be within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian at all times.
The council is pulling out all the stops to help celebrate the Coronation, with parties, events and fun throughout the extended weekend including live outdoor performances, storytelling, puppetry, magician shows, cinema at the Assembly Rooms, community sports events, The Big Lunch, outdoor inflatable obstacle course from The Realm, Hamsterzorb and cream teas!
On Saturday 6 May and Sunday 7 May, families are also invited to take part in a free piggyback race and tug of war in the Castle Grounds.
Further updates, the full schedule and details of how to pay for The Realm and Hamsterzorb will be available online at https://www.tamworthartsandevents.co.uk/.
Anica Goodwin, Executive Director of Tamworth Borough Council, said: “The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort is going to be a huge country-wide celebration and we are making sure Tamworth is joining in with a packed weekend of sport and entertainment.
“After the successes of the fun runs at last year’s Castle Summer Fest we’re running them again. We hope to develop this into a regular weekly Park Run in Tamworth. The fun runs for the Coronation are free to enter, and people of all fitness levels and abilities are invited to take part. Having a separate run for children means it will be something the whole family can get involved in.
“We’d warmly invite people to sign up for the run, or just come and cheer people on, and then join us for an afternoon of fun.”
